Where Is Our OU Hockey Color Analyst?????

Press Release from EMU Hockey about..Good Luck to Kyle Horner @ EMU

" August 27, 2008

Devin Keast and Kyle Horner will make EMU hockey history as they sign on the web and air for EMU Hockey's first ever broadcast on September 19th.

Play by Play will be announced by Devin Keast, a Lapeer, Michigan native, who has recently re-located to the area after living in Chicago and working in the theater business the last seven years. In Chicago he trained at Second City Conservatory, famous for launching comedians to Saturday Night Live fame. Keast also graduated from Comedy Sportz University and worked in the Chicago theater business. While in the "windy city" he was host of "The Rocket Boy Radio Hour", host/actor on Sudbury (Hockey on the radio), and co-host of both "Matt Lash: Signed, Sealed, Delivered" and "The Brothers Martin Night Cap". He was also a writer for all those programs. Several years of training in improvisational theatre, as well as professional performances and years of public speaking (including the ability to speak in different dialects and voices) made him a perfect choice for the play by play position at EMU Hockey. He is a lifelong hockey player/enthusiast, enjoys tennis and other organized sports.

Color Commentor, Kyle Horner comes to the EMU broadcast team from Blackburn radio in Leamington, Ontario, where he served as a reporter. He was also co-host for Oakland University hockey's weekly sport radio show and color commentator for the Grizzlies ACHA division one team. Recently he covered the OHL finals in Plymouth and the NHL draft in Columbus, Ohio. He is a graduate of St. Clair college in Windsor, Ontario and Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts. His personal interests other than hockey are sports radio, journalism, news and golf.

General Manager Robert Stumpmier said the two announcers are a perfect fit for the new broadcast and will help it grow and expand quickly into one of the league's premier programs. They will be guided by radio broadcast manager Ron Wittebols, a veteran of Detroit radio and advisor for WBFH radio in the Bloomfield Hills School district. Some games will also be broadcast in the Oakland county area over that station. "

Grizz Gang- Coach Beam of Volleyball

Rob Beam Photo ougrizzlies.com

I'm working on a TV Feature on Comcast Channels (OUTV) 11/74 Depending on where you are out about the Grizz Gang and Women's Volleyball team. Those should hit the air in the next week or so. About the volleyball feature I spent a good amount of time in the O'Rena in the past week or two previewing the Volleyball season, including an interivew with Head Coach Rob Beam and I got to sit in on a practice, Coach Beam was very helpful in me getting all the information I needed for the feature and its good to see him building something with the ladies.

As for the Grizz Gang:

"The 2008-09 Grizz Gang student organization (student fan zone) is gearing up for another exciting year of athletic contests. The Grizz Gang, a recognized campus student organization, currently comprised of over 500 members, encourages all students to become a member of the Oakland Athletics tradition." Read More

One thing in my talks in getting info on the Grizz Gang with various people is

"Students registered for the 2008-09 Grizz Gang are invited to attend the Grizz Gang Jumpin’ Jamboree on Thursday, September 4 from 5:00pm-9:00pm at Hamlin Circle. The Jumpin’ Jamboree will allow students the opportunity to meet and greet with OU coaches and athletes, received signed team posters, take photos with the Grizz, participate in a variety of outdoor games, and enjoy free food and beverages."

Golden Grizzlies Release 2008-09 Men’s Hoops Schedule

Head Coach Greg Kampe on Schedule:

“We are excited about the schedule,” said Kampe who enters his 25th season on the bench. “We think it gives us an opportunity for national prominence. We play on the East Coast, and the West Coast. We play some of the top traditional teams in the country. It gives our new young players an opportunity to see what the best in college basketball is about. It fits in with the tradition of the way we’ve scheduled since we’ve been Division I. We’ve tried to schedule all the great teams any time, any place, and this fits that.

“To be able to host Michigan and Michigan State is a real feather in our cap. We really need the fans to come out and support us those two games by filling the Palace.”

PLYMOUTH WHALERS TRADE TAYLOR CARNEVALE TO OSHAWA

"PLYMOUTH – Plymouth Whalers President and General Manager Mike Vellucci announced the trade of 17-year-old center Taylor Carnevale to Oshawa in exchange for the Generals’ second round draft choice in 2011. The Whalers also sent a fourth round pick in 2011 to Oshawa and received the Generals’ fifth round pick in 2011.

Carnevale – selected by the Whalers in the second round (30th overall) of the 2007 Ontario Hockey League Draft – scored six goals with seven assists for 13 points in 57 games last year as a rookie for Plymouth. With veteran centers Chris Terry, AJ Jenks, Vern Cooper, Joe Gaynor and Tyler G. Brown all returning and 2008 first round pick Tyler Seguin also a center, Carnevale faced a numbers game in Plymouth.

“We have a lot of strength up the middle,” Vellucci said. “The trade allows Taylor to play at his natural position.” Read more

Also the Whalers are about to start the season again the summer has went by quickly. We may try and touch base with Coach Sommariva and see if we can get a little preview in the next few weeks as the OHL is almost back underway.
