Mike Vellucci Named Sports Newsmaker of the Year

"It’s no secret that the Plymouth Whalers are a perennial powerhouse.

Most of that is due to the leadership of Mike Vellucci who serves as the president and general manager of the Whalers and Compuware Arena and, until recently, head coach of the Whalers.

Nothing can top the year Vellucci and his Whalers had in 2007. The team won the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) championship and the league awarded Vellucci the Matt Leyden trophy for Coach of the Year—he was the first American coach to ever earn the honor."
