OU Press Release:

"Oakland Inks Drew Valentine in Early Signing Period

The men’s basketball standout will join the Grizzlies next fall.

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Drew Valentine, a senior at Lansing Sexton High School, has signed a National Letter of Intent to come and play basketball at Oakland University, announced head coach Greg Kampe on Thursday morning. Valentine is a 6 foot, 5 inch, 210-pound wing player that is ranked No. 7 in the state of Michigan by BankHoops.com.

“He’s a great signing for Oakland because he fits our needs,” said Kampe. “The thing that we like the most about Drew are his leadership qualities, his athleticism, aggressiveness and he’s a very intelligent player. He’s a born leader and someone we expect to have a great career at Oakland University.”

Valentine was an all-state honorable mention selection as a junior last season, averaging 15.5 points per game and 11.9 rebounds per game. He led Sexton to a perfect 12-0 record in the Capital Area Activities Conference and a No. 6 final ranking in the state.

“They were the first school to offer me before my junior year,” said Valentine to The Oakland Press. “They showed a lot of loyalty and earned my trust.”

Valentine is also an excellent football player at Sexton. He set a single-season school record for passing yards and helped lead the Big Reds to the CAAC championship and district championship. Due to an injury, he was forced to miss the entire football season this year, but should be playing basketball in January."
