NHL Free Agency Starts Monday at noon

NHL Free Agency Starts Monday at Noon. The Detroit Red Wings need a Goalie, Scoring Forward and a Defenseman or two. The Free Agency Period will be very active for not only Detroit but the rest of the league. IT should be an exicting time with hickey fans glued to the computer hitting that refresh button every second. Like old times?

Chris Osgood

Ted Kulfan reported in today's Detroit News about the Red Wings goaltending situation:

Nikolai Khabibulin would be ideal for the Wings but with the salary cap, it seems like an unlikely situation and could come at the cost of Manny Legace. Chris Osgood was quickly dismissed for Dominik Hasek after the 2001 playoffs. The bigger question is if this did happen, would the Wings be taking a step back?

ESPN is reporting that Larry Brown, Joe Dumars and Bill Davidson will all meet Wednesday and it could decide his future with the team.

Fresh Pistons News

Rob Parker WKRK host and Detroit News Columnist, was just on WDIV Local 4 and reported that Bonzi Wells wants to come back to the Pistons and will be glad to come off the bench and that it looks like he would sign as a free-agent pending his release out of his contract and that the Pistons Front office is laughing at those who portray Larry Brown as a victim in all this and they cannot understand why he has not committed to the team yet and that they know about his health but expect him to commit and Parker doesn't think Brown will return as Pistons Coach.

Keep in mind that Parker is very close to Joe dumars as well.

‭"‬Babcock turns down Ducks

Sports Ticker

7‭/‬7‭/‬2005‭ ‬12‭:‬09‭:‬51‭ ‬AM

The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim have a head-coaching vacancy‭. ‬

TSN has learned that Mike Babcock has officially turned down the Mighty Ducks‭' ‬offer of a one-year contract extension and sources say now that Babcock has indicated he won't be returning to Anaheim‭, ‬he is headed to the Detroit Red Wings as their new head coach‭. ‬

Babcock had a deadline of Thursday to accept or reject new Ducks‭' ‬GM Brian Burke's offer of a one-year extension‭. ‬Babcock had asked for a week to test the open market and has apparently found a multi-year position with the Red Wings‭. ‬Sources say Babcock informed the Ducks Wednesday night he would not be returning‭. ‬

Dave Lewis‭, ‬who has been the Red Wings‭' ‬head coach‭, ‬met with Detroit GM Ken Holland on Tuesday and was told his situation would be clarified by week's end‭. ‬Lewis's contract with the Wings expired on June‭ ‬30‭. ‬Sources say Holland is likely to meet with Lewis on Thursday‭, ‬at which time it's expected Lewis will be told his contract as head coach is not being renewed‭" ‬
