National Champions!!!!

Wow a last week for Oakland University Hockey Back-To-Back Champions (D2 2006-D1 2007)

I am still in shock as I sit in my office area at OUTV this morning ( I was over an hour late for work as well) I would have never thought this after the famous Blowup at the Team Stevie Staeger and myself had after the Western Michigan Game in the UMD Classic.

I only missed 4 games this season the 2 in Iowa and the 2 in Illinois so following the guys since November every game makes this championship so special. I saw the team develop, fall apart and develop into Champions. They beat Illinois who is many peoples eyes were the best team in the the tournament then # 1 Penn State simply amazing

Credit to Sean Hogan. I questioned on the OU Hockey Show earlier this season if he had what it took to Coach this team this season. They seemed lost and confused many many games this season. Hogan does know best and I was wrong on him dead wrong. Now the question remains how can this guy not win Coach of The Year? If I had a vote he would be the guy. I know Penn State Head Coach Scott Balboni will get some votes keeping the Icers #1 and back in the championship game in his first season as Head Coach but Hogan had a sinking ship and saved it, the questions were why do these guys suck so bad? What has happened to this program? Does Hogan know how to evaluate talent? He does and Collin Chase Proves that.

I forget sometimes that he is a freshman. It took me more then half the year to be sold on him. I was in the Jim Sardelli Camp for most of the year, then went with Andy Hansen proven goalie so he can win this thing. Wrong Again. What is funny is the Coaching Staff and myself both throughout the season kept making Chase our third option. It all started for Chase with the big victory over Liberty at the ONYX.

As many of you know I am not allowed to make predictions about OU Hockey because I end up cursing them if I do. The Prediction in my head was OU would lose to Lindenwood in day 1 and Go home. Just so you know.

McMahon's Winning Goal VS #3 Illinois

Big Victory, Work still to be done!

WOW!

Who would have thought in the first year in ACHA D1 action Oakland University will be in the Championship Game?

Amazing game, Collin Chase was huge in net for the Grizzlies and carried them to victory today.

Goal Scoring Summary:

1st period:

No Scoring

2nd Period:

JP Ferrari from Cooper and Rank in the 1st 1-0 OU

Will Mcmahon from Ingram and Chornoby 2-0 OU

Matt Jennings got Illinois on the board and gave them some much needed life 2-1 .

When all the Drama Started:

Late in the 3rd Illinois pullls DeGeorge for an extra Attacker and scores right away:

Then Heredia from Trulock and Pringle 2-2 TIE This was with 1:19 left in Regulation. Illinois wanting to win in regulation calls a Time out but it backfires and Oakland Will take advantage.

Will McMahon broke in all alone on DeGeorge and made an amazing move and beat him with 59 Seconds left in the Game.

DeGeorge was Pulled Again and Chase and the defense was up to the Task as OU won 3-2

Penn State Up Next

Players To Watch Out For:

Penn State did not have a single 20 Goal Scorer in the Regular Season

Lukas DeLorenzo led the Icers with 19 Goals

Signet had a
1.98 GAA, Matteo a 2.05 GAA. Matteo played in net today for the Icers. Signet was in net for OU when they beat the Icers at OU 4-1 a few weeks ago.

Orbinger is a dangerous player and OU must be ready for him.

Big key Oakland MUST stay out of the Penalty Box It didn't burn them against Illinois but in the future it may.

This is truly what the players live for and this is a moment where everyone needs to play the best game possible to beat Penn State. It will tough. Very Tough.

Major Task lies Ahead

Major task ahead against Illinois tomorrow:

The UMD Game was solid all around by OU. They need the same game with McMahon and Cooper doing what they do against Illinois.

Chase has to be perfect in net. They need more Michaels and Kondratek Goals.

Jeff Einheuser played his best game of the season last night Bertolo had that bolt of speed in him to create plays.

Demmaggio and Burke need to get some Goals on Saturday. When Burke Scores he does it in bunches Saturday would be a good time for that.

Last night in the Hotel the guys were relaxed but focused and know what they have to do they lost 7-2 and 6-3 At Illinois in September.

DeGeorge is out standing in net only 4 losses this season simply amazing.

Illinois is fast and dangerous they will make you pay for poor play and mistakes. OU must convert on the majority of the Power Plays and keep traffic in front of the net deflections will be key in beating DeGeorge.

I like that I have no heard anyone say they don't have a chance if you think that as a Player or Coach then you will play like it. We have seen the OU Coaching Staff coach some of the best games they have ever coached against the top teams and in the big games. I know they got right to work on a game plan and will continue throughout the day. They are focused.

Room for error is zero tomorrow. We practice at 3pm today.

Webcast Issues

I have received numerous e-mails from Oakland fans about the Webcast at the ACHA D1 Tourney and that the video quality is poor. Sadly This is out of my hands and the ACHA controls the webcast. There is no other way to view/hear the games at home besides what the ACHA has.

More Nationals

Day 3 has started for the Oakland University Hockey Team at Nationals.

The internet was out AGAIN last night!

1. Oakland was down 3-1 against Lindenwood and I thought it was over. Then Two goals less then 1min apart tied it up. OU gave the game right back up now trailing 4-3 but never never ever did the Grizzlies Die.

Big Part at the end was a Lindenwood 5 on 3 Late in the game with OU up by 1 the Defense was solid and so was Chase and OU held on.

Props to the guys Dan Mcnabb from Lindenwood were heard about how dangerous he is and they shut him down....I barely noticed him really was not impressed with the best player on the Lions.

oaklandhockey.org has more specifics on the Game.

Will and Cooper will need another great game. Chase was good I know he can be better.

We leave for the rink in about 40 Minutes. The Coaching staff realizes what is at stake here and won't let the guys slack. Don't forget OU was crushed in the last meeting with UMD. But beat them in the first two games to open up the season.

UMD Players to look out for:

Joel Kuehn (Dangerous creates plays-Scores)

Steve Rademacher ( Outscored Will this year) Top ACHA Scorer

Stephen Yu (Solid in Net, Makes key saves at key times)

No matter what UMD always hangs around and always finds a way to get it done. Very Dangerous game for Oakland. Lets hope they are ready. I have full confidence in The Oakland Coaching staff to make sure they are. It will be addressed about not slacking because they are ranked higher then UMD when the guys hit the room today. I don't think it will be a problem but its good the Coaches are being safe then sorry.
